About us

WHO WE ARE

Respiratory Society of Kenya (ReSok) is a professional, non-profit, reference organization whose mission is to improve lung health in Kenya and beyond, through partnership, advocacy, research, innovation, education, training and technical support. A membership organization (just like the IUATLD) with leadership provided by chest medicine specialists (functions as the Kenya Thoracic Society).

KAPT was formed and registered under the societies act in 1956 as the local chapter of the International Union Against Tuberculosis (IUAT/KAPT). In 1997 both IUAT and KAPT changed their names to incorporate Lung Disease (LD) and thus IUATLD/ReSok.

Known internationally for its world acclaimed successful implementation of the Public-Private Mix (PPM) model for TB care and prevention that is currently being replicated by other countries.

ReSok’s other areas of interest and engagement include: Tuberculosis, Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, Community Acquired Respiratory Infections, in both children and adults, including Viral pneumonia (Influenza, SARS), Occupational lung disease and Environmental health (Climate change and lung health, Air pollution, and lung health) and Tobacco Control.

Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, ReSok works in partnership with the National Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Lung Health Program (NTLP) and County Governments to achieve its goals.
